Delhi Metro Rail Corp (DMRC) spokesperson Anuj Dayal said the rising footfall of commuters was the reason for the early cost recovery.
A Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) study in 2007, when the number of daily commuters was 500,535, indicated that the break-even cost of the phase I construction of Delhi Metro would be recovered by 2013.
But with average daily ridership reaching 950,000, this can now be achieved by 2011.
